Enrollment Information

Course registrations are taken on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Class size is limited and it is recommended that learners register at least one month in advance. Courses with low enrollment are subject to cancellation prior to class start date. In the event of cancellation, learners will be notified and tuition refunded.

  • Payment must be received (in person or over the phone) prior to registration.
  • When using a credit card for payment, please note that if your card is declined, an alternate form of payment is necessary. LEARNER IS NOT REGISTERED UNTIL FULL PAYMENT IS RECEIVED.
  • Completion Certificates will be given for each course; duplicates may be purchased for $10 each.

ALLIED HEALTH COURSES AND CERTIFICATES

American Heart Association, Fundamentals of Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

8 hrs.

This American Heart Association course teaches the skills of CPR for victims of all ages, the use of AED, and relief for FBAO in responsive and unresponsive victims. This course is designed for healthcare providers who care for patients in a variety of settings, both inpatient and outpatient.

EMT Certificate Program

200 hrs.

This hybrid course provides technical knowledge and training to become an Emergency Medical Technician. It prepares learners to give efficient care to the critically ill and injured at the scene and en route to a medical facility. This program is certified by the South Carolina Department of Public Health. Successful completion makes learners eligible to take the national certification examination. Classes will be face-to-face and online. A candidate must be a high school graduate or possess a high school equivalency diploma (GED), be 18 years old before course completion and require submitting proof of an active Basic Life Support Certification.

Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate Program

100 hrs.

This program provides learners with basic training in the care and delivery of health services to geriatric and/or acutely ill patients confined in short-term facilities, long-term institutions, and home care. This course requires the learner to complete 40 hours of classroom lecture, 20 hours of skills lab, and perform 40 hours in an off-site clinical setting. Learners are encouraged to obtain an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification prior to course completion.

Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program

80 hrs.

This program will prepare learners for the NHA (National Healthcare Association) and CPT (Certified Phlebotomy Technician) exams. Training includes skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques including performing proper venipunctures and universal precautions. Learners are encouraged to obtain an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification prior to course completion.

This EKG Technician Certificate Program

40 hrs.

This EKG technician course provides foundational knowledge in cardiac anatomy, electrophysiology, and the technical skills required to properly record, mount, and label a 12-lead electrocardiogram. Learners focus on electrode placement, identifying waveforms, measuring intervals, and ensuring proper machine operation and patient safety without interpretation. Learners are encouraged to obtain an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification prior to course completion.

 

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

TradeShift- Core

120 hrs.

Based on the NCCER Core Curriculum, this course provides foundational skills for entry-level employment in construction and industry. Learners learn workplace safety, basic construction math, proper use of hand and power tools, and how to read construction drawings. The course also covers material handling and lifting techniques, effective workplace communication, industry roles, and basic financial and critical workplace skills to prepare learners for successful entry into the workforce.

Basic Electricity

25 hrs.

This online course is a study of basic electricity principles. Topics include electrical safety, atomic structure, Ohm’s Law, series, parallel and combination circuits, wire sizes, various types of Direct Current batteries, and Alternating Current circuits.

OSHA General Industry

10 hrs. & 30 hrs.

These courses include Occupational Safety and Health Act required material and topics that directly relate to manufacturing. Some topics include: OSHA record-keeping requirements, common violations/citations, walking and work surfaces, means of egress and fire protection, lock out/tag out, guarding, HAZCOM, etc. It is recommended these courses be taken every three years to receive updated information from OHSA.

Six Sigma Yellow Belt

10 hrs.

This course is the first step in learning the Six Sigma methodology. Yellow Belt training consists of the following: Lean overview, Lean Six Sigma principles, 8 areas of waste, 5-S, the data-driven quality strategy called DMAIC, process mapping, and the various Six Sigma tools.

CDL Truck Driving Training

160 hrs.

This course is designed to prepare individuals to take the Commercial Drivers examination. The program includes classroom studies, safety, hands-on training, range skills, and highway instruction. There is also a dusk-to-dawn driving instruction module. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to drive within the state of South Carolina and 21 years old for interstate driving, possess a valid S.C. Driver’s license, and pass a criminal background check, D.O.T. drug screen & physical. A CDL beginner’s permit must be obtained prior to class.

OSHA Certified Forklift Operator

8 hrs.

This hybrid course is designed for an individual with no experience in forklift operation. Learners will learn to operate a forklift in a safe and professional manner. This program includes online instruction, written evaluation, practical training, and a demonstration of competency by the trainee on the forklift. Forklift operators are required to take a refresher training course every three years for recertification.

Forklift Operation and Safety Refresher

4 hrs.

This course is designed to meet the refresher training under OHSA regulations 29 CFR 1910.178 for experienced forklift operators. The training course includes classroom instruction, written evaluation, and a demonstration of competency by the learner on the forklift. Forklift operators are required to take this training every three years for recertification.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL TRAINING

Confined Space

6 hrs.

This course is designed to meet the OSHA (29 CFR 1910 146) requirements for training of persons who must enter and work in confined spaces. This program stresses the importance of safety awareness and hazard evaluation control.

Confined Space Entry and Rescue

12 hrs.

This course is designed to meet the OSHA (29 CFR 1910 146) requirement for training of persons who must enter and work in confined spaces. This program stresses the importance of safety awareness and hazard evaluation and control. Permits will be written, and actual entries will be performed in our confined space simulator.

Basic Math for Operators

12 hrs.

The course involves practicing basic math calculations that apply to treatment facilities. Course topics include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimal equivalents, conversions, formulas, units of measure, word problems, and calculating dosages. This course meets ABC’s continuing education requirements for approved course topic criteria for water treatment, water distribution, biological, PC, and well driller. 

Advanced Math for Operators

12 hrs.

The course involves learning advanced math calculations that apply to treatment facilities. Course topics include a general math review and problems related to coagulation, chemical feeders, clarification, chlorination, fluoride, filtration, hydraulics, motors, pumps, and flow rates. This course meets ABC’s continuing education requirements for approved course topic criteria for water treatment, water distribution, biological, PC, and well driller. 

Electrical Maintenance

6 hrs.

This course will cover the electrical fundamentals for wastewater operators including: atomic theory & energy sources, electric circuit basics, power systems, reading electrical diagrams, electrical measurements, normal operations and troubleshooting. This course meets ABC’s continuing education requirements for approved course topic criteria for water treatment, water distribution, biological, PC, and well driller.

Pump Maintenance

6 hrs.

This course will cover an overview of pump theory, types, components, and repair including selection & replacement of packing and mechanical seals, normal operating conditions, and abnormal operating conditions. This course meets ABC’s continuing education requirements for approved course topic criteria for water treatment, water distribution, biological, PC, and well driller.

Electrical and Pump Maintenance

12 hrs.

This course combines both the Electrical Maintenance and Pump Maintenance classes.

Review Courses for Operators

12 hrs.

Review courses are intended for wastewater operators desiring to earn continuing education credit to maintain their operator certification and who are not preparing for the state certification exam. Courses are offered both in-person and online.

Short Schools for Operators

28 hrs.

Short Schools are training sessions designed as a comprehensive overview for operators of wastewater treatment facilities who are preparing for the state certification exam. The ABC Need-to-Know criteria for operators are used as the topical outline for each Short School, and Sacramento Manuals are used as reference texts. Courses are available in-person and online, designed for all levels of operators (A, B, C, D, and/or E).

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Defensive Driving

8 hrs.

Up to four points may be deducted from your driver’s license upon successful completion of this National Safety Council Defensive Driving course. The point reduction may be applied every three years. Not applicable to DUI violations or suspended licenses. Classes are held twice a month in Sumter. You must pre-register and be a licensed driver to attend this training.
